Treatments
On your first visit, your Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) will conduct a thorough assessment or your injury, condition or concern. You will be provided with a treatment plan designed specifically for you. Along the way, we will take the time to ensure you understand your condition and feel confident as you move forward in your recovery.
Orthopaedic and plastic surgeons often refer clients to CHT’s for splinting, exercises, edema management or scar control after surgery. We interact with these specialized hand surgeons so that you will receive the best possible post-operative care.
CHTs have extensive training, knowledge and experience in the rehabilitation of the upper extremity. To aid in your recovery, your CHT may employ a variety of techniques and treatment tools including:
- Brace selection or splint fabrication
- Edema management
- Soft tissue mobilization
- Manual therapy mobilization
- Exercises
- Compression therapy
- Scar management
- Desensitization
- Joint protection
- Taping techniques
- Modalities
Custom Splinting

Custom splints/orthoses are made using low heat thermoplastics that softens when heated. The plastic is then custom moulded to support the area of injury. As it cools it hardens, providing a perfectly fitting splint.
Alterations in the days or weeks following the initial fabrication can be made. No need to purchase a new device. The necessary adjustments are done by re-heating the thermoplastic.
Brace Fitting

We carry a supply of the prefabricated braces that we recommend. Prefabricated braces usually have some type of fabric or other soft material with a metal or plastic support sewn inside.
It can be overwhelming to shop for a brace and find the right one. We can help simplify this process. We have selected and carry several quality soft and rigid braces for the elbow, wrist, hand, thumb and fingers.

Physiotherapy can get you moving after an injury or prevent a chronic condition from worsening. A physiotherapy assessment will help to identify the problem and develop a treatment program. This will include hands on treatment, identifying ways to manage it, and a home exercise program.
